What we collect
We collect only what you choose to send us and what is needed to run the website securely:
- Messages: when you use our contact form, your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), the subject and your message.
- Job applications: when you apply through our careers form, your name, email address, phone number, the position you are interested in, your CV and any cover note.
- Technical data: like any website, our server records basic details of each visit in its access logs (your device’s IP address, the date and time, the page requested and your browser type). To stop spam, our forms also keep a scrambled form of your IP address for ten minutes.
Please do not send sensitive personal data, such as health or religious information, through our forms. We do not ask for it.
Why we use it, and on what basis
We use personal data only for these purposes, each on a lawful basis set out in section 25 of the NDPA:
- To reply to your message and, where you ask for it, prepare a quotation or provide our services: steps you ask us to take before a contract, or the contract itself, and our legitimate interest in answering messages sent to us.
- To consider your job application: steps you ask us to take before a possible employment contract.
- To keep the website secure and working and to block spam: our legitimate interests.
- To meet legal obligations, such as keeping business records or answering lawful requests from public authorities.
We do not sell personal data, we do not use it for marketing without your consent, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means alone, including profiling.
Who we share it with
Your data is seen only by the staff of Oilchem Chemicals & Allied Industries Limited who deal with your message or application. We share it only with:
- our website hosting and email service providers, who store and deliver it for us and may not use it for their own purposes; and
- professional advisers, courts or public authorities, where the law requires it or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
The map on our contact page loads only if you choose “Show map”. It then comes from Google, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies (see our cookie policy).
Transfers outside Nigeria
Our website and email may be hosted on servers outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred outside Nigeria, we do so only on a basis allowed by sections 41 to 43 of the NDPA, such as an adequate level of protection in the receiving country or appropriate safeguards in our agreements with providers.
How long we keep it
- Messages sent through the website’s forms are kept in the website’s records for 24 months, then deleted automatically.
- Job applications and CVs sent through the website are deleted from it automatically after 12 months.
- Copies in our email inboxes are kept for up to 24 months, unless your message becomes part of a contract or another record we must keep by law.
- Server access logs, kept for security, are deleted after 12 months at the latest.
Your rights
Under sections 34 to 38 of the NDPA you have the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used, and receive a copy of it;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
- have your data deleted when there is no longer a lawful reason to keep it;
- have the use of your data restricted while a concern is looked into;
- withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on it (this does not affect what was done before);
- object to the use of your data, including for direct marketing;
- not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing; and
- receive your data in a commonly used electronic format, or have it sent to another organisation.
To use any of these rights, email communications@oilchemindustries.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity. We will reply without undue delay and free of charge, except that if providing a copy of your data would cause us unreasonable costs, we may ask you to bear some or all of them.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first at communications@oilchemindustries.com so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng.
How we protect it
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Form messages can be read only by authorised staff, uploaded CVs are kept in a private folder that cannot be opened from the web, and access to the website’s administration is protected and limited. If a personal data breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify the NDPC within 72 hours of becoming aware of it and tell you where the law requires.
Children
This website and our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent us personal data can ask us to delete it.

Our website links to other websites, including those of the other Oilchem group companies and our social media pages. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
